LITU Set To Be Global Hub For Chemical Engg: CM Fadnavis

Nagpur: Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University (LITU) on Sunday took a step towards expansion and developing a modern campus, with a proposed investment of 223.59 crore. Work began on the ground with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis performing bhoomi pooja, which he called a historic moment for LITU. As per the project blueprint, the campus will see the addition of an administrative building, laboratory complex, auditorium, workshop block and a canteen. The plan also includes a petrochemical research lab, a management studies school and a dedicated incubation centre to support innovation and start-ups. Residential infra will be augmented with a girls' hostel and a 500-bed boys' hostel to accommodate students from across regions.CM Fadnavis said, "For decades, this institution has contributed immensely to the field of chemical engineering, but over time, several challenges, particularly related to infra, affected its growth. Recognising its potential, we took a conscious decision to grant it autonomy and transform it into a full-fledged university."He added, "With this transition, scope for expansion has increased significantly. We are now developing a modern and well-equipped campus that will match global standards. The vision is to build LITU into an institution comparable to leading international universities, particularly in fields like chemical engineering, where it already has a strong foundation. In the years ahead, the university will continue to produce skilled professionals who will contribute not just nationally, but globally."Officials added the campus will be equipped with air-conditioned classrooms, seminar halls and advanced laboratories to align with contemporary academic and industry standards. The expansion also aims to improve overall campus accessibility and create a more integrated learning environment. LITU vice chancellor Atul Vaidya noted that the institution, formerly known as the Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT), was renamed LITU after the CM granted it university status. "This is a significant moment for LITU. Established in 1942 by Rao Bahadur D Laxminarayan, the institution carries a proud legacy. Process of strengthening the institution has been progressing ever since it earned the university status three years ago," Vaidya said. Officials indicated that work on the project will begin in phases, with an emphasis on timely execution and completion. The development is also expected to position LITU as a stronger hub for technical education, research and innovation in the region.
